The days are getting shorter again and slowly the alpine summer begins to evaporate in the autumnal colour frenzy. Now it is also time for the cows and small animals to return to the valley from their summer retreat. Goose bumps! The four-legged home riders start their descent in artistic decorations and with a roaring bell ringing. At the traditional "Almabtrieb" festivals in the region, the cows are welcomed to the valley with atmospheric music and delicious delicacies.
In autumn, when the Zillertal giants shine in front of the deep blue sky, the scent of freshly mown hay and ripe fruit mixes with the tales of the summer pastures and lends this colourful season a very special magic. The rhythm of nature has always determined the life and customs of people in the Alps. After the exhausting harvest time, the farming year comes to an end and the gratitude for the gifts of the earth and the successful work is expressed in a solemn procession according to ancient tradition. On the first Sunday in October, the whole village is on its feet, from the kindergarten child to the altar boys, the marksmen's company, the music band and the rural youth to the women and men in festive costumes. After the service in the parish church of St. Rupert, the beautifully decorated crown of thanksgiving is carried through our picturesque village of Stumm during the solemn procession.
